F2F Chat is an encrypted friend to friend chat and file transfer program available to download free. It works on any Win32 computer to enable two friends to chat and transfer files privately and securely over the Internet. It is a portable app, meaning that it does not access the system registry, and requires no installation or uninstallation. This site is intended to provide relevant information not included in the downloadable package and enable you to get software updates from the original author.

Most conventional chat programs send messages and files between chat partners in an unencrypted form, which means that unintended parties can monitor and eavesdrop. Conventional chat programs that offer any encryption at all may have back doors or may otherwise have untrustworthy security and privacy measures. F2F Chat is open source, so anyone can read the source code. If there were a back door or other security loophole, anyone could potentially detect it by analyzing the source code. Therefore, by virtue of the open source software paradigm, it is unusually trustworthy.

Encrypted chat messages and file transfers are harder for unintended parties to read just as a locked door is harder for an unintended party to enter. Intentionally introducing such difficulty is a means of protecting the privacy of information transmitted between you and your chat partner. Otherwise, sending unencrypted chat messages and transferring unencrypted files to chat partners exposes you to significant privacy risks.

Unlike peer to peer connections, friend to friend connections bypass central server hubs, and connect the two parties directly. No server is involved. You cannot use F2F software to find new friends, but it enables you to chat and share files with a much greater degree of security and privacy with known friends, because it bypasses central server hubs, where security and privacy violations are most likely to occur. You have to know your chatting partner's IP address in order to connect with him; and you will probably have to set up port forwarding in your broadband modem. See the file “readme.txt” after downloading for further details.

Good security and privacy is less convenient, and requires users to be smarter about their online habits; however, when lives become overfull, it is tempting to be lazy-minded and take the easy way out. That is why most people end up sacrificing the security and privacy of their data. Accordingly, privacy intrusions have become very easy and commonplace, giving rise to what some consider a dangerous police state througout the western world.

Use a program like F2F Chat if the security and privacy of your data is more important to you than convenience. Set-up can be more complicated, but only has to be done once for each chat partner; and takes less time than most people waste on one sitcom episode.
